Maiers Barber Shop Throwback T-Shirt
The Maiers Barber Shop Throwback T-Shirt features a design found only at Dubuque Clothing Co., printed on a premium tee with soft, high-quality inks built to last.
Al Maiers opened his barber shop in 1960 and built his whole business on one specialty: a sharp flat-top haircut. Twelve years in, he moved to a small Central Avenue location he bought from Jim Herrig, and at his busiest he could knock out 22 to 26 haircuts a day for a roster of roughly 500 regulars. When Maiers finally retired in 2016 after 56 years behind the chair, he was one of the last of a dying breed -- Dubuque once had 90 to 100 barbers, a number that had dwindled to just five or six by the time he hung up his scissors.
