The final and longest-running chapter of Dubuque's professional baseball story belonged to the Dubuque Packers, who took the field in the Midwest League from 1954 through 1976. The Packers won league titles in 1955 and 1962, and their roster included a young catcher named Bruce Bochy in that final 1976 season, before he went on to manage three World Series-winning teams in the majors. When the Packers folded after 1976, it closed the book on 106 years of professional baseball in Dubuque, a run that had begun all the way back in 1870.
