This design is one-of-a-kind and found only at Dubuque Clothing Co. — the St. Anthony's Friars Catholic Elementary School Throwback T-Shirt is printed on a premium tee using high-quality, soft inks built to last through every recess.
St. Anthony's has been teaching Dubuque kids since November 1866, when it opened at St. Ambrose and Seminary Streets under Bishop John Hennessy's directive that a Catholic school be built wherever a new parish was planned — the very first building measured a modest 32 by 26 feet with secular teachers at the front of the room. The Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary took over teaching duties in 1876, and after a fire destroyed both the school and convent in 1914, the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary stepped in to keep classes going out of a frame building on the grounds starting in 1917. A proper Gothic Revival building with eight classrooms finally went up in 1927 under Msgr. O'Malley, and the school kept growing for decades after — new classrooms and a library through the 1930s-50s, the Steinmetz building in 1966-67, kindergarten added in 1980, and a major 1990 expansion that brought the campus up to twenty-two classrooms, computer labs, a gymnasium, and a cafeteria.
