Calling the kitchen sink a "zink" is a real, documented regional pronunciation heard from the Midwest down through Appalachia — and it's just a coincidence that it sounds like the metal zinc, since "sink" and "zinc" actually come from two completely unrelated word roots. Funny enough, plenty of old butler's pantries really did have sinks made of actual zinc back in the 1800s, prized for how easily it could be shaped and how well it held up to water. Whatever the reason it stuck, "zink" is proudly part of the local vocabulary around here.
